  INTRO
  -------

AimShips is simple and dirty: it places a little red dot right
outside your ship to make it easier to aim. Ships that are bulky
and sometimes difficult to gauge exactly where they're pointing
become easier to use with greater degrees of precision.

    - Increase your aim over time.
    - Make small crevices and holes easier to fire through.
    - Calculate bullet and bomb bounces with higher degrees of accuracy.

  INSTALLATION
  --------------

  1. Copy all files into your Continuum GRAPHICS folder.
  2. Run install.bat. This will install the aiming ship graphics,
and will make a backup copy of your current shipset.
  3. On the main Continuum screen, go to:

      View -> Options

Click on the Graphics tab, and uncheck "Rolling Ship" if it
is not already unchecked. This disables the roll effect on
ships, which is visually pleasing, but interferes with the
2D-based AimShips Shipset. I recommend keeping this unchecked
even if you uninstall AimShips, as it can be distracting.

Alternately, you can of course copy the files manually over and
  rename aimships.bm2 to ships.bm2, and aimdisp.bm2 to disp.bm2.

  DOES IT WORK?
  ---------------

Will using AimShips actually make it easier to aim? Yes, it will,
but not extremely noticeably. The biggest difference you will
probably see is with ships such as the Leviathan and Shark, which
have the most blunt frontsides. That doesn't mean that it won't
help a little with Warbirds or Javelins -- it just isn't as obvious.

AimShips will help you make precision shots a good bit easier.
Don't concentrate on the end of the ship... just stare at the little
red dot, draw an invisible line out, take your time and make the shot.
You'll find yourself making them more accurately and more consistently,
because it's much easier to observe by degrees how much you turn, and
  where you will shoot.

  WHY DIDN'T YOU...
  -------------------

Why didn't I do this differently -- I mean, why make just a tiny red
dot in front of the ship instead of a massive bar sticking out, or a
target a few inches in front? Well, many reasons.

The bar and target sticking out end up being very, very distracting.
It makes it very hard to aim and get your bearings. This was actually
attempted by another individual who I told my idea to, and it turned out
with less than satisfying results. Another distracting thing is that the
names on each ship increase in distance proportionally with the bar/target
sticking out. More distraction. If that's not enough, you also see an
enormous bar sticking out of EVERY ship, not just your ship. It would
make it so you can see where everyone's aiming, sure; how helpful that
actually is remains to be seen.

Also, the idea is to give a subconscious aiming advantage -- NOT create
a cheat. This may help you, but it won't aim for you.

If you want to create your own shipset with massive aimer included, you're
welcome to do it... you just may not be satisfied with the outcome.

  ETHICS
  --------

For most purposes I believe that using this shipset is ethical. After all,
it's just a tiny red dot. However, pay attention to your zone rules and
remove it if such modifications are illegitimate. I don't condone the use
of this except for your own amusement.

I personally don't approve of using this in squad matches. Ask your squad
captain. A handy install/uninstall system has been included. Before squad
matches, run uninstall.bat in your graphics directory. Then, when you're
done with matches, quit out and run install.bat again to change back to the
  AimShips Shipset.

  UNINSTALLING
  --------------

    Run uninstall.bat.

This will not remove aimships.bm2, but will keep a copy of it in your
Continuum\graphics folder so you can reinstall it using install.bat at any
time. If you want to remove it completely, delete the following files:

    aimdisp.bm2
    aimships.bm2
    install.bat
    uninstall.bat
    readme.txt (this file)
    disp.bak (if it exists)
    ships.bak (if it exists)
